Open Studios: Virginie Brunelle Artist Talk and Excerpt from To The Pain That Lingers
Ahead of its showing at Theatre Junction Grand, Compagnie Virginie Brunelle (Montreal) will perform an excerpt from the new work To The Pain That Lingers (À La Douleur Que J’ai).
Virginie Brunelle is an exciting young choreographer at the forefront of the Montreal dance scene. In À La Douleur Que J’ai, she offers a poetic work that is sometimes romantic, sometimes crude, but always informed by her ongoing investigation of human relations. Brunelle explores our connection to each other and the link that can never be truly broke. Moving through a world of conflicting emotions, her remarkable performers appear on stage, carried by the lingering echo of separation and absence. Brunelle’s choreographic signature is distinct with highly physical performances and classical vocabulary deconstructed into jagged rhythms and raw gestural motifs.
Co-produced by Theatre Junction, Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Agora de la Danse, The National Arts Centre, and Usine C.
“Beyond the boldness and frankness of the rebellious youth, her work shows signs of a personal vision that compels attention.” – The Gazette
