Panel 4: Reporting on Hostile Sources and Illiberal Movements
All reporters must cope with hostile sources. Increasingly, authoritarian leaders are attacking journalists and media organizations, in the effort to discredit their work. What are some best practices for reaching out to hostile sources? Are there specific strategies for reporting on the perspectives of supporters of illiberal movements?

About the Summit:

The Democracy Project: Journalism in the Age of Alt-Facts

In the age of alt-facts, deeply researched reporting is more crucial than ever to the viability of an informed citizenry and a healthy democracy. From October 20 - 22 writers and journalists will gather in Banff to discuss practical next steps in the critical conversation around media and democracy.

This weekend of conversation is open to the public and attached to an accompanying five day intensive residency on Investigative Journalism.
